HOBA, the ‘Hop on a Boat Anywhere’ mobile app has confirmed that its Water Cleanup Challenge, in observation of International Coastal Cleanup Day, will take place later this month on Shem Creek (SC) after Hurricane Irma forced the original event to be postponed. The Challenge, which will take place on Saturday, October 21 is an eco-mission with a difference. With live music, a Captain’s party and $3000 worth of prizes up for grabs, HOBA’s Water Cleanup Challenge invites boaters and paddle boarders to turn trash into cash by collecting the most ocean litter. Working in teams, boaters and paddle boarders will start the clean-up at 10am from Red’s Ice House on Shem Creek, Mt Pleasant.

Tourament Style Cleanup

The Water Cleanup Challenge will be structured like a fishing tournament – after collecting their trash bags from Red’s, each team will have the entire day to clean up Charleston’s historic waterways. The top three boats and top three paddle boarders bringing back the most trash at 4.00pm will share over $3000 in cash and prizes donated by local businesses.
